Migraine Treatment

When to go to Ample Urgent Primary Care for Migraine Treatment

Our provider can create a treatment plan for your migraines that may include preventative oral medication, monthly injections, or even botox therapy.

Migraine or Chronic Migraine?

Knowing the difference between migraine and Chronic Migraine can make all the difference when it comes to treatment. If half your month is spent with headaches and migraine attacks, you may have Chronic Migraine.

What are the common symptoms of Chronic Migraine?

Moderate to severe headaches or head pain

Head pain that causes throbbing, pounding, or pulsating sensations

Nausea and/or vomiting

Sensitivity to light, noise, and/or smells

Attacks that last from 4 hours to several days

INDICATION

BOTOX  is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to prevent headaches in adults with chronic migraine who have 15 or more days each month with headache lasting 4 or more hours each day in people 18 years and older. It is not known whether BOTOX is safe and effective to prevent headaches in patients with migraine who have 14 or fewer headache days each month (episodic migraine).

Migraine Headaches

Headaches happen all the time, but not every headache is a migraine. Most headaches are mild to moderate in intensity and respond easily to over-the-counter pain relievers. Migraines are usually moderate to severe in intensity and may last for hours or days. Migraines often prevent you from participating in your normal activities.

When you have a migraine, the pain is usually on one side of your head. Your migraine may also be accompanied by nausea or vomiting, and you may also be sensitive to light or sound.

While we don’t know exactly what causes migraine headaches, people report many common triggers. Triggers can include:

  • Stress
  • Hormones
  • Certain foods and food additives
  • Skipping meals
  • Physical strain
  • Lack of sleep

While both men and women can get migraines, women are more likely to get migraines than men. Migraines can also be hereditary; people with a family member who gets migraines are more likely to experience migraines themselves.

What AUPC doctor can do for a migraine headache

Ample Urgent Primary Care doctor can offer relief for some of your most uncomfortable migraine symptoms. Your doctor can give you injectable nausea relief as well as an injectable anti-inflammatory to provide relief for the pain. Occasionally, steroid injections are also effective at relieving migraine symptoms.
